No wasting money as Duraflex opts for Mil-tek

Duraflex has discovered a new use for the plastic wrapping it uses to transport its window profiles to customers by implementing a new recycling scheme.

Until recently the plastic wrappings all went to landfill, with Duraflex returning the wrappings to its Tewkesbury headquarters on the return leg of the delivery journey. The plastic was skipped and sent to landfill, costing the company £60 a tonne to take away. With a tonne a week going to landfill, Duraflex needed to find an alternative option.

Using expertise from Toddington based Mil-tek Direct, Duraflex has turned its surplus plastic into cash through installing a Mil-tek waste processing baler which compacts the plastic liner into tight bales. The bales are then taken away for recycling, earning the company £225 per tonne. Says Chris Paterson, Process Improvement Manager at Duraflex: "We're expecting to see in excess of £12,000 a year revenue/cost saving through baling plastic and we now know that we're handling this plastic surplus responsibly."
